Vermont Climbing Programs
Vermont Caving, Ice Climbing, Mountaineering, Rock Climbing, Rope Courses

Rock climbing and mountaineering programs are popular in Vermont. Instruction is available at inside climbing facilities and on some of our famous cliffs. Vermont instructors are world class, but remember that climbing is a dangerous sport and the better prepared you are, the more fun you'll have.

At the UVM ARC, we pride ourselves in providing top-quality, customized ropes course programming. A ropes course, also known as a challenge course, is a series of activities and structures made of wood and cables. Your group will navigate these structures, called elements, while our staff members facilitate. Through your group’s efforts, issues that typically take weeks or even months to address can be brought to the forefront within hours due to participants feeling challenged and “out of their element”. Beyond being merely fun, ropes courses provide a powerful and rewarding experience.

Challenge and an emphasis on safety characterize our approach to this exciting lifetime sport. Our location, within a short drive of several excellent climbing areas, assures lots of time on the rock. Our programs emphasize top-rope climbing where the rope is anchored by the instructor at the top of each climb. Students learn to climb and belay (protect each other with the rope) as well as to move smoothly and with minimal effort on the rock. Our progression, from novice clinic to climbing days to intermediate clinic, is designed to help students learn to climb competently on their own. We offer clinics tailored just for you.
