Spend the summer as a Camp Counselor

Outdoor Wilderness camp needs you to share your knowledge! You will lead, instruct, and supervise fun and adventure for 9-16 year-old boys from June 21 – Aug. 11, 2008. This is your opportunity to spend the summer outdoors learning and teaching in a fun and professional environment on 700 pristine acres in northeast Pennsylvania, south of Binghamton NY.. Some counselors may work an extra week at our Family camp for all ages and both genders Aug. 10-17.
Our wilderness summer camps are an opportunity to experience new and exciting activities in a safe, supervised environment with encouragement from trained counselors and staff
You will learn and grow as you assist or lead in teaching waterfront skills, canoeing, camp craft, woodworking, light construction, archery and other activities. You will be actively involved in all program activities, leading and participating in recreational and instructional times as scheduled. You will directly supervise children while being involved in classes and activities (on- and off-site), and stay with campers over night.
Qualifications: Residential camp experience preferred. You should love the outdoors and have the patience, understanding, flexibility, and energy to work and live with campers and staff. You need good teaching skills and an ability to implement creative “hands-on” teaching methods.
Salary: $2000-2500 plus room and board, 1 day off a week, time off every day & the big city is just 20 miles away.

It’s that time of year again! We are accepting applications on a rolling basis for 2008 Field Season. There are 24 crews and 180 Corps Member positions to fill for positions throughout the state. This year’s non-residential positions are based in Woodstock, Montpelier and Burlington as well as at Allis State Park and North Hero State Park. Our traditional Roving and Wilderness crews still offer a residential experience. Seasonal Outdoor Teachers and Guides

Kroka Expeditions, an Earth Living Skills School, located in Marlow, NH is looking for outstanding candidates to teach and guide in our unique programs. Our season extends from Mid April to Mid October.
Responsibilities: Lead groups of 10 – 15 highly motivated youth, ages 7 – 18 on unique wilderness journeys that combine travel by foot and canoe, white water paddling, climbing and caving with community living, indigenous and traditional skills and handwork, singing and farming. Programs range from one to two weeks and include custom journeys for Waldorf and other school groups and 20 summer camp programs. We are looking for highly motivated and hardworking people, who will contribute to our program their special talent, enthusiasm and skills.
Compensation:

Job Description: Administrative support includes aspects of business, communications, sales, marketing, written work, and public relations.  The primary function is to assist Executive Director and Events Director in development of programs and events. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, record keeping, newsletter preparation, correspondence preparation, database management, web-related research, customer service—on the phone, in person, and in writing.

The individual in this position will be working with an array of people. Strong interpersonal skills are helpful.  Strong computer skills are a must.  Individual should be highly motivated and able to work effectively under tight deadlines. This person needs to be punctual, creative, energetic, imaginative, and innovative.   Right candidate would need to be friendly and outgoing and should be adept at multi-tasking. Communication skills need to be strong, verbal and written, especially written.  Detail-oriented skills are essential.  Ideal candidate would have some management skills.  Some weekends and evenings required usually with several weeks or months advance notice.  Some light manual labor should be expected periodically.

Interns Needed at Northern Forest Canoe Trail
We are seeking five talented interns to work with us this summer and thought you might know some good candidates.
Stewardship Interns
will complete trail work along the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, living in a tent, working at times alone and at times with other interns, staff, and volunteers.
The Program Intern will assist NFCT staff with the wide variety of activities that happen in the busy Waitsfield, Vermont office.
The Youth Program Intern will help coordinate and lead NFCT’s new Northern Forest Explorers Youth Program in Maine. 
Candidates will need to be at least 18 years old at the time of the internship.

Extreme Adventures of Vermont and Vermont Adventure Camps Jobs for 2008

Assistant Guide, Camp Counselor, Camp Counselor/Office Assistant

Assistant Guide: We are looking for an assistant to help our head guide. The person that we hire for this position will help with all guided trips and also guide trips. We are looking for some one who can guide beginner kayaking and give white water kayaking instruction. A strong role is a must. You will go on the Expedition Travel camp for two weeks with out a day off. The ability to guide adults and kids is a must. Professionalism and competence with our clients is very important. This job starts at the beginning of June and ends at the end of August.

Camp Counselors: We are looking for male and female counselors with specialties in: climbing, backpacking, hiking, paddling, rafting and other various activities for Vermont Adventure Camps for the summer of 2008. Previous experience with kids is preferred, but not a must. Enthusiasm and energy are essential for this job.

Camp Counselor/Office Assistant: Same responsibilities as a camp counselor, but your time will be split in helping the camp director with the various office tasks. You will only be helping in the office a few times a week so you will still have plenty of time to go interact with the campers. Previous experience with office operations is preferred, but we will train you if necessary.

These jobs start on June 15th and go until the end of August or longer.

Bunk House (co-ed) lodging and some meals are provided. Pay range is from $1500-$3000.

POSITION:  Counselor / Outdoor Education Leader (June to August)

 

QUALIFICATION:

           1.        Minimum of 19 years of age

           2.        At least one year of college, more preferred

           3.        Certifications: Wilderness First Aid and/or ARC Lifeguard Training and/or Trip Leader Certification.  

           4.        Experience and training in wilderness camping, canoeing, and backpacking

           5.        Significant experience working or volunteering with young people

 

RESPONSIBLE TO: Camp Director     

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

           1.        Leadership & guidance for the youth in the wilderness program.

           2.        Lead/teach activities within guidelines of Junior Maine Guide program

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1.        Live and work with a group campers and help each camper adjust and growing relation to other campers and camp life; and monitor daily hygiene of the group.

2.       Work cooperatively as necessary with all other staff members in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program.

3.       To interpret philosophy, rules and regulations of the camp, with special emphasis on safety and health regulations.

4.       Guide each individual camper in participation in all group and all camp activities.

5.       Offer special programming in; Trip equipment, wilderness shelter/setting up wilderness camp site, cooking, camp tools, fire building, canoeing, map/compass, first aid, trees, safety issues, backpacking, leave no trace, and knowledge of Maine.

6.       Assist with camp program activities & other camp wide activities as assigned.

                7.        Lead campers in work cleanups responsibility and other work projects.

                8.        Attend, lead, and participate in Meeting for Worship.

9.       Attend staff meetings and relay information to other staff not present. 

              10.      Set an overall good example for other staff and campers.

11.       Prepare written evaluation at the end of the summer following the guidelines provided by the Director.
