Thursdays at 5:45 pm – Onion River Sportswomen's Road Ride Group
Get exercise, have fun and meet new people! The A group ride leaves from the Onion River Sports parking lot every Thursday at 5:45pm. We will cover between 25-35 miles. The B group leaves from the Statehouse Lawn at Thursdays at 5:15pm and keeps a slower pace, usually covering 16-20 miles.  A helmet is a must, and please be able and prepared to fix a flat and do minor repairs on the fly. These 2-3 hour snowshoe hikes offer beautiful views of central Vermont and Rutland County. Hike to the peaks of several local mountains and see views overlooking the Taconic Range, Killington and Pico Peaks, Rutland City, and the Chittenden Reservoir.  Each hike location will be determined by the ability/experience level of the group. Snowshoes and hot chocolate will be provided. Participants should bring their own clothing (appropriate to the weather), food, and water. (Minimum of 4, maximum of 12 participants)

A one-day course focusing on ice climbing equipment use and climbing technique. Students will first learn how to use crampons and ice axes, how to tie in to the climbing rope, and how to belay. Students will then spend the rest of the day climbing on different angled terrain ranging from 45 degrees to vertical ice. The course is a great introduction to the sport and is welcoming to those seeking a new experience. The largest women-only cross country ski clinics in the country will be held at The Mountain Top Inn & Resort on Sunday, February 3, 2008. The 7th Annual NE Women’s XC Ski Day, sponsored by TD Banknorth is a cross country event “for women, by women". Instructors provide 3 clinic periods through the day, for all levels. Olympic Marathon Gold Medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson, an avid xc skier, is the guest speaker at lunch. The event will support the Rutland County Women's Network and Shelter.

WATERBURY, VT -- Join Pickett Hill Guide Service , the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department, and Vermont Outdoors Woman for a Women's Intro to Ice Fishing, Saturday, February 16th, 2008 on Lake Bomoseen in Castleton, Vermont.
Learn about how to bait and catch several types of fish, how to make your own Champlain Jack Ice fishing tip-up and leave with many more tips from seasoned winter fishing guides.

This class is for ladies only. From beginner to some basic experience with handguns. If you carry a handgun, have one in your home or are applying for a concealed carry permit. This course is a must. You will learn the legal aspects of self defense shooting, firearm safety, and much more. This is a two day course. It will consist of class room and range time. As a class we will focus on the carving, form and technique, and successfully working of a bow drill kit.  We will also push beyond that by expanding our senses to explore the intimacy that exists between ourselves and fire.  Accordingly, we will also learn more about tree ecology, fire structures, caretaking the landscape, weather, and also local rock and its utilitarian purposes, from cooking to community.  It is our intention to see you confident not only in asking for fire from wood, but also in exploring how deep, entwined, and fundamental our relationship with fire is. May 17 Chester Loop Bike Ride with Women
Since mud season is not yet officially over, we will take to the roads again, this time in southeastern Vermont.  We will begin the ride in Chester, bike south to Saxtons River, then west toward Grafton and loop back to Chester; surely, we will find at least one bakery along the route.  Distance: 28 miles of easy to moderate terrain.  Fee: $10.

White water Rafting Weekend, Deerfield River, Massachusetts

The Deerfield River’s most popular rafting section, Zoar Gap, features Class II and III white water rapids that are ideal for beginner and intermediate rafters.  The ten-mile white water rafting trip begins at Fife Brook Dam and takes you to rapids such as Microwave, Freight Train and Pinball, allowing you to hone your skills in preparation for the raging waters of Zoar Gap. Aug. 22-24, Becoming an Outdoors Woman
The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department, in partnership with the Central Vermont Longbeards, is holding a Becoming an Outdoors Woman Weekend on August 22-24, 2008 at the Buck Lake Green Mountain Conservation Camp in Woodbury. Reservations are on a first-come first-serve basis, so Fish & Wildlife urges you to register early.  The weekend-long event will give women the opportunity to learn paddling, fishing, tracking, shooting sports, archery, and wilderness survival skills. Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) is a national women’s program which began in 1991.  Programs are coordinated by many state fish and wildlife agencies and sportsman’s clubs throughout the nation.  The program goal is to provide opportunities for women to learn skills that enhance and encourage participation in hunting, angling and other outdoor activities.  A $90 registration fee covers lodging, meals, equipment, and a T-shirt.
