January 25, 2020, SheJumps Intro to Backcountry with AMC Skiers at Cardigan
Public · Hosted by Jaimee Rondeau and SheJumps. With an Appalachian Mountain Club-owned lodge at the mountain's base and many beginner-friendly trails, Mount Cardigan is the perfect place to learn the basics of backcountry alpine skiing in a non-judgmental, female-friendly space. Join female ski leaders from the AMC-NH Ski Committee to learn all the foundations for backcountry skiing. Registration is $40; space is limited to 14 participants. Pre-registration is required for this event, please note your spot is only confirmed when you get a complete confirmation from email Jillian and/or Jaimee. This is a great chance to gear up and enjoy some ice time with members of the Women’s Waterbury Wicked hockey squad as they provide some basic coaching to build your confidence on and off the ice. February 9, 2020, Dutch Hill Women Only Skin-Up Ski-Down
Intro to Dutch Hill (Readsboro) All ability levels, For competent downhill skiers (skinning experience optional). Equipment? We’ll take the time to help you get it right. Bring skins (or snowshoes if no skins) for the climb and AT skis, tele skis, split board or other downhill specific gear for the descent. Skinny skis will not cut it. Our first ascent will likely take an hour, and we’ll stick together as a group. We’ll take the easiest way down on our first run. If the glade-like conditions with scattered trees unnerve you, you’ll be fine as long as you have a rock-solid snowplow to keep your speed in check. For our second run, we can break up into smaller groups of similar abilities, but everyone will check in again at the bottom before heading home (or heading back up for yet another run on your own). Beginner/Intermediate – Sunday, February 16, 2020 (backup date Sunday, February 23) Calling all women! Join Outdoor Gear Exchange and the CTA for a fun and mellow tour in the Bolton Backcountry! Sporting a fun, inclusive, no-pressure atmosphere, we will head up the Bryant Trail to Bryant Cabin, continue on to Stowe View, then head back to the Wilderness lift at Bolton to ski down some trails! Need an AT setup? Head to OGE to rent skis, boots, skins, and poles, and find any other ski gear you need! Limited to 10 skiers. June 10 – 14, 2020, Mountain Leadership School: Women's Specific
AMC Highland Center, NH. Mountain Leadership School is AMC's most comprehensive outdoor leadership development program. Individuals take advantage of MLS to learn to safely and confidently enjoy their wilderness experience with minimal impact on the backcountry. The course is applicable to those who hike solo, with friends or intend to lead groups.
