There are thousands of miles of recreation trails in Vermont. This is a list of four seasons of recreation trails, greenways and waterways, for ATVs, hiking, mountain biking, bike tours, birding, ice skating, paddle sports, horseback riding, skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Please respect our landowners and the rules of the trail.

The Appalachian Trail offers extensive information relating to the longest hiking-only trail in the world. Thousands of AT trail hikers have shared their advice, photos and stories for others. It would be much appreciated if you could share with your site visitors.
Ascutney Trails Ascutney Outdoors and Trails offers a remarkable four-season venue for lovers of nature and the outdoors. Community members and visitors enjoy public access to our trails, forests and fields for mountain biking, hiking, horseback, trail running, backcountry and alpine skiing, snowshoeing and snow-tubing. The Ascutney Outdoors Center is the gathering place for all of our activities and a stunning venue for community and outside events.

Beebe Spur Rail Trail
Beebe Spur Rail Trail (BSRT) connects with the Newport Bike Path and Memphremagog Trails to provide cyclists with a short four-mile ride starting in Newport. This easy and flat gravel trail begins in a residential area and then reveals spectacular views along the lake's eastern shore. The BSRT terminates in North Derby where signs guide riders along a quick 1.5-mile detour to enter Canada.
Bristol, VT Trail Network - are trails developed and maintained for hiking, biking and cross country skiing.
Burlington Bikepath - Activities: Walking, Biking, Cross Country Skiing, In-line Skating, Fishing, Wheelchair Accessible Length: 7.6 miles from Oakledge Park in Burlington to the Winooski River Trail Bridge. The Burlington Bikepath is a section of the 14-mile Island Line Trail. A bridge at the Northern end of the path connects to Colchester and the portion of the Island Line Trail that is a Causeway across Lake. The seasonal Island Line Bike Ferry carries cyclists and pedestrians across a gap in the Causeway to the Island of South Hero. For the ferry schedule, click Local Motion.

Connecticut River Paddlers' Trail - New England’s longest waterway, the Connecticut River, provides many opportunities for recreational exploration.
Cross Rivendell Trail - Fairlee, VT - A 36 mile educational and recreational resource in Vermont and New Hampshire.
Cross Vermont Trail - The purpose of the Cross Vermont Trail Association, Inc. is to assist municipalities, recreation groups, and landowners in the creation and management of a four-season, multi-use trail across the state of Vermont for public recreation, alternative transportation, and awareness of our natural and cultural heritage. The trail will run from Vermont's western border on Lake Champlain to its eastern border in the Village of Wells River on the Connecticut River.
Cycle Conservation Club of Vermont, - We are dedicated to creating, enhancing and preserving legal off-road and dual-sport motorcycle opportunities in Vermont.
Delaware and Hudson Rail Trail - Castleton, Poultney & Rupert, VT - The Delaware and Hudson Rail Trail is a 19.8 mile long converted railroad bed in southwestern Vermont which was originally part of the Delaware and Hudson rail system that connected Rutland, Vermont with Albany, New York. The two nearly ten mile long sections extend through scenic areas of western Rutland and Bennington Counties with views of nearby hills, open farmland, forests, wetlands, end villages.
Dorset, Vermont Hiking Trails
Dorset is home to thousands of acres of public and conserved lands that allow for hiking, biking, skiing and horseback riding.
Friends of Waterbury Reservoir is a Vermont non-profit organization committed to protecting, improving and enhancing the ecological, recreational, and community values of the Waterbury Reservoir.

Green Mountain Trails - The Green Mountain Trails are a multiuse network of flowy singletrack over varied terrain in Pittsfield and Stockbridge, Vermont eight miles North of Killington. Mountain bike, trail run, hike, snow shoe on some 25 mi. of stellar trails.
Green River Reservoir State Park in Hyde Park, VT is a 2227 hectare state park in Hyde Park, Vermont, on the shore of 653-acre Green River Reservoir. Activities includes camping, swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking, mountain biking, wildlife watching, and winter sports.
Hard'Ack Recreation Area
In St. Albans has free terrain for nature trails, skiing or snowboarding, as well as a sledding hill and trails for mountain biking, snowshoeing and Nordic skiing.
Ice Skating Trail At Lake Morey - The Lake Morey Resort maintains the longest skating trail in the United States, a 4.5-mile loop around the lake. It’s an amazing experience that’s not to be missed. Directly in front of the resort we maintain up to 16 smaller rinks for skating and pick-up hockey games. Skate rentals are complimentary for Lake Morey Resort guests.
Island Line Rail Trail - Hop on the spectacular 14-mile rail trail along Lake Champlain. The Island Line cruises through Burlington’s waterfront, crosses a river delta on the Winooski River Trail Bridge, and scoots out on the Colchester Causeway three miles into the middle of the lake! The seasonal Island Line Bike Ferry carries cyclists and pedestrians across a gap in the Causeway to the Island of South Hero. Public beaches, natural areas, and scenic vistas abound. Kingdom Trails has established over 100 miles of multi-use trails, allowing for many self-guided hiking, mountain biking, and riding opportunities, with many more to come.
Lake Champlain Bikeways - a 350 mile principal route has been identified, mapped, and promoted along the Lake's shoreline from Whitehall, New York, crossing the Canadian border to Chambly, Quebec. A network of interconnected, international bicycle routes on existing roads along Lake Champlain in Vermont and New York, and the Richelieu River in Quebec.
Lake Champlain Birding Trail - The Birding Trail will circle the entire lake. Within the large loop, there will be smaller interior loops. These smaller loops will be very diverse in the habitats and species they showcase.
Lake Champlain Paddlers' Trail - The mission of the Lake Champlain Paddlers' Trail is to develop and maintain a trail for human-powered boats and to encourage managed access and responsible, safe recreation.
Lamoille River Paddlers’ Trail is an emerging, community effort to develop new opportunities for paddling and fishing along the Lamoille River.
Lamoille Valley Rail Trail - Nearly 100 miles long, the LVRT will be the longest rail trail in New England, offering spectacular vistas and local hospitality and services for hikers, bikers, equestrians, snowmobilers, snowshoers, dog mushers and cross-country skiers and a host of other users and organizations.
Mad River Path Association - Our purpose is to create and maintain recreation trails and pedestrian pathways in Vermont's Mad River Valley. Through landowner agreements, our growing trail network is available for use by the community at large as well as our many guests.
Memphremagog Trails is a non profit corporation with a mission to create and promote top rate cross country ski and mountain bike trails. These beautiful trails are located off the Beebe Spur rail trail between Derby and Newport, VT.
Millstone Trails Association is a non-profit organization that maintains the Millstone Trails, a network of non-motorized recreational trails in Central Vermont. Our trails traverse 1,500 acres of diverse and dramatic terrain, among historic quarries, New England villages, and regenerating forests.
Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge - Black Creek and Maquam Creek interpretive trails provide good opportunities for waterfowl and wading bird observation and photography as the trails pass through 1 ½ miles of wooded lowland.
Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail - The Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail is a 26-mile multi-use recreational trail located in northwestern Vermont. It wanders through farms, forests, fields and communities. Whether you walk, ski, or ride (bike, snowmobile, horse back), a trip on the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail takes you into the heart of northern Vermont's agricultural open lands. Come harvest our agricultural heritage!
Moosalamoo National Recreation Area of almost 16,000 acres, is a treasure in the heart of the Green Mountain National Forest. More than 70 miles of well-maintained trails from rugged cliffs to gentle slopes provide many opportunities for hiking, biking, cross/back-country skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife and bird watching, and more.
Northern Forest Canoe Trail - The entire 700-mile length of the NFCT is passable now. It connects or has access to every major drainage in the northeast, and traverses a diversity of waterways, each historically significant to the region’s development.
Passumpsic Valley Water Trail - This 30 mile water trail begins in East Burke Village and flows to the Connecticut River.
Ridgeline Outdoor Collective - creating a sustainable trail and glade network that extends through public and private land and can be used for various non-motorized activities such as hiking, running, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and mountain biking. The proposed trails and glades would encourage non-motorized activities for locals and visitors alike.
Robert Frost Interpretive Trail - This trail is a National Recreation Trail that commemorates Robert Frost’s poetry; several of his poems are mounted along the trail in the woods and fields. The trail is an easy walk, and the first 0.3 miles across a beaver pond boardwalk out to the South Branch of the Middlebury River is accessible and suitable for wheelchairs.
Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge was established in 1997 to conserve, protect and enhance the abundance and diversity of native plant, fish and wildlife species and the ecosystems on which they depend throughout the 7,200,000-acre Connecticut River watershed.
Slate Valley Trails continues to build and maintain free public trails in Castleton, Poultney and Wells. With almost 40 miles of existing trails, and more than 25 new miles of trail planned for construction in 2020, we are an up-and-coming trail network in southwestern and central Vermont.
Southern Vermont Trails Association, In summer we have many hiking, biking and running trails. In winter we have many managed backcountry touring zones and trails for skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking. Please have a look at our maps, the descriptions of the zones and trails. In partnership of the Town of Dover, The Dover Town Forest Conservation Commision, Mount Snow, USFS and the private landowners of the Dover area.
Stowe Mountain Bike Club - The Stowe, Waterbury and Morrisville mountain bike trail network meanders through land graciously used by permission from private and public landowners, and are maintained and developed by volunteers, largely through the efforts of SMBC and its members.
The Fellowship of the Wheel - The Fellowship maintains a series of mountain biking trails in Chittenden County ( Burlington Area).

Vermont Institute of Natural Science Nature Trails - VINS’ nature trail system has been upgraded to make a section accessible to people of all mobility levels, including those using strollers and wheelchairs. VINS currently has three-quarters of a mile of trails that wind through the rich floodplain forest along the Ottauquechee River, with views of Dewey’s Pond.
Waterbury Area Trails Association (WATA) is a volunteer-run organization that builds and maintains trails for a healthy, vibrant, and sustainable future. We are a Vermont Mountain Bike Association Chapter built from the ground up to support the Waterbury area trails and community.
Waterbury Trails Waterbury is home to several multi-use trail networks open to folks for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Many trails are located within Little River State Park and the Perry Hill trail network, both of which are accessible for recreation year-round. A portion of the Cross-Vermont Trail also passes through Waterbury, providing access to trails right from downtown.
